Despite the rainy conditions, Dave and Szu-ting did what they could to make our group as comfortable and dry as possible. During the heaviest of downpours, they were in the kitchen to ensure each of us had a hot drink and a hot meal. This I understand can be a very challenging feat at times, but they handled it beautifully and as a result, we were all very happy. -Annie Wilson

Formosa, means “beautiful island” in Portuguese, and describes Taiwan well. Besides abundant ocean resources and stunning coastal lines, the complex geological history has given this island vast unspoiled alpine regions. There are countless mountains and 258 of the peaks are over 10,000 feet high. This steep terrain has also created raging rivers and breathtaking waterfalls. The sheerness of the mountains combined with the subtropical climate has produced very diverse vegetation. We will partake in day trips, enjoying the natural endorphins of the forests just on the outskirts of a city. We will also participate in multi-day adventures traversing though mountain passes, enjoying the peaceful solitude while bathing in the alpine glow above clouds.

The natural beauty of Taiwan will be unveiled via selected hikes and a multi-day trek though the heart of the mountains. We will visit different landscapes, witness interesting geological features, and experience local culture. The trek is a good opportunity to synchronize our spirits with the essence of the mountains. We will travel through verdant forests, penetrate the cloud line, and submerge ourselves in alpine Formosa.
